Comparison between MICP-Based Bio-Cementation Versus Traditional Portland Cementation for Oil-Contaminated Soil Stabilisation

چکیده

In recent years, oil spills and leakages have often occurred during exploration, transportation, handling, usage, processing, causing serious global environmental problems. Microbially-induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) is an emerging green, environmentally friendly, sustainable technology that has proven to be a promising alternative for soil stabilisation. This paper provides comparison between the mechanical performance of oil-polluted sand treated with biocement traditional Portland cement. A series laboratory tests, including permeability, unconfined compressive strength (UCS), triaxial consolidated undrained (CU) was conducted. Even though contamination deteriorates bonding both cement soils, biocement-treated oil-contaminated found achieve higher (up four times) than cement-treated in presence similar content cementing agent. After eight treatment cycles, UCS value reached 1 MPa, demonstrating high potential stabilisation regions leakages.

Soil Improvement By Microbiological Cementation

Beginning of the twentieth century, population growth, urbanization and industrialization has led to depletion of rapidly building areas. Accordingly, each passing day, the opening of the new construction sites has become mandatory. Among these newly opened areas, geotechnical aspects of construction from time to time in areas not suitable for construction and deployment was seen to improve the...

Stabilisation of Engine Oil Contaminated Soil Using Cement Kiln Dust

The utilisation of industrial bi-products such as cement kiln dust (CKD) is of increasing importance as an option for stabilising contaminated sites due to its pozzolanic nature and also in view of minimising the environmental impact. The experimental programme was carried out in the present study to evaluate the efficacy of CKD as stabilising agent at different percentages 2%, 6%, and 14% (w/w...

Comparison of two pressurisers for cementation of the proximal femur.

PURPOSE To compare pressures generated by 2 different cement pressurisers at various locations in the proximal femur. METHODS Two groups of 5 synthetic femurs were used, and 6 pressure sensors were placed in the femur at 20-mm intervals proximally to distally. Cement was filled into the femoral canal retrogradely using a cement gun with either the half-moon pressuriser or the femoral canal pr...

Tibial component fixation with cement: full- versus surface-cementation techniques.

Despite excellent outcomes with cemented tibial components in total knee arthroplasty, it still is debated whether the tibial stem should be cemented and what the optimal tibial stem design should be. Proponents of full cementation of the tibial stem and component state that better short-term and long-term component fixation is achieved when full cementation is used. Advocates for surface cemen...
